It’s Led Zeppelin monday!

(Led Zeppelin - Good Times, Bad Times)

Today I was just finishing up the drive between Pittsburgh and Towson where our show is tonight.  And sipping on my coffee and dodging the terrible east coast/Baltimore/DC drivers, I decided to spend the morning listening to one of my favorite drummers, John Bonham.  He had such amazing foot control, and sick grooves.  I love it.

So while I was driving, I was just remembering back when I was probably 13 or 14 years old and really started enjoying Led Zeppelin’s music.  I was listening one day to “Stairway to Heaven” and just started getting pumped.  I thought I was the first person to ever discover how great this band was! So I excitedly made my dad come listen to it.  He was less than excited as I had hoped he would be.  But then I later realized that the song was released in 1971, and he had been hearing it non-stop for 30 years.  Haha.

Just reading up on our trusty Wikipedia… “The song was voted #3 in 2000 by VH1 on their list of the 100 Greatest Rock Songs.[1] It was the most requested song on FM radio stations in the United States in the 1970s, despite never having been released as a single there.”

Pretty awesome… I have my doubts, but I wonder if there will ever be a classic song like this, or like many of the songs of that era that will come out of our generation and then continue to be around for 30 years.  What will music be in 2040?
